Fangs With Benefits

When a hapless vampire falls for a demon-summoning witch, trouble is almost guaranteed. Throw in a himbo vampire hunter, a shape-shifting succubus, and more than a few shady characters—it’s just setting up for a bad romance. 

Considering our characters from Spacejinx all started in a fantasy plot revolving around vampires, we’re really just returning to form with Fangs with Benefits. 

We’re currently working on this idea as a collection of short comics and minizines; while we have no plans of turning this into a webcomic, you can read some of the short comics below.

Main Characters

• “Rook” Lee: An overworked grad student at a magical university with a penchant for dabbling in darker magic. Coming from a long line of skilled diviners, he’s spent his life trying to please his parents at his own expense. Ends up with Dante as his familiar through an accidental bonding ritual.
• Dante De la Rosa: A dumb vampire masquerading as a bad boy even though he’s really a softie at heart. Can turn into a bat, which is why he’s stuck as Rook’s familiar. Loves blood (a good idea for a vampire), sugar (a bad idea for a vampire), and a certain witch (a terrible idea for a vampire).

Boyfriend magicians trying to make ends meet by taking on whatever odd jobs come their way.  

We really just wanted an excuse to craft a story where we could put bunny and fox ears on our protagonists. Success! We were also able to nerd out with the magic system we created.

Note: Selene and Wendy first appeared in the “Spacejinx” webcomic! We wanted to make a fun one-shot for a convention, and working with these two characters ended up being so much fun that we decided to make a sequel comic.

Spacejinx

All space cadet Benedict Young wanted was a jetbike. Instead, he ended up with an illegal android (who also happens to be a sexbot). To make matters worse, he’s roommates with the galaxy’s biggest asshole. The future ain’t always so bright!

We started Spacejinx as a webcomic in 2010, and have since collected 3 books chronicling the misadventures of Benedict, Florian, and Edmund as they dealt with everything from space pirates to alien plant life to an anti-robot military force. Spacejinx is on indefinite hiatus and will probably not be continued.

Note: Around 2015-2016, we started watching a bunch of movies featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and became fans of his charisma and large muscles. Since the impetus behind many (er, all) of our zines is love, we decided to pay tribute to the People’s Champion himself with various recipes, activities, and centerfolds.

Note: 2019 was a year of wrestling-themed zines and comics as both of us found ourselves going to live shows and watching various wrestling programs. We had such positive feedback with The Rock Recipe & Fun Book zines that we figured combining recipes with some of our favorite wrestlers would be a great idea—and it was! Unfortunately, we’ve had to retire this zine as it currently stands due to some of the wrestlers featured. Hopefully, we can release another version with some new recipes and different wrestlers.

Ritual Rumble

An AU-take on the Spacejinx characters! Born with less common sense than the average bridge troll, Florian has always been a magnet for trouble. When a sightseeing trip goes wrong and he finds himself at the wrong end of a sacrificial dagger, it may be more than he can handle! Will his vampire boyfriend be able to save him this time?

Note: Before Spacejinx, we had many of the same characters in a fantasy-world setting. Benedict was a vampire, Florian was an idiot prince, and there was no shortage of capers and shenanigans that they found themselves embroiled in. This was a little side-story one-shot for fun.

A series of four mini-zines about cocktail recipes based on favorite cult movies such as Barbarella, Demolition Man, and Starcrash. We later collected this into one anthology zine.

Note: Cinema Shots initially began as a way for us to highlight cult movies/lesser-known movies that we were fans of, but as we became nerdier about cocktails and mixed drinks we started putting more thought into the recipes. Most of these mini-zines also included guest recipes/art from our friends.

The Epic Nic Cage Fun & Activity Book

A zine anthology dedicated to our love of actor Nicolas Cage, complete with mazes, word searches, and other fun activities!

Note: Initially we had two Nic Cage Fun & Activity Books; this covers the collected version. These zines have become our most popular zines over the years, and we still get approached by people who want to talk about our Nic Cage zines. We went through a Nic Cage phase and tried to watch all of his movies; alas, we gave up on that endeavor before too long.
